Past Horseback Riding

Me 1982
As kids, we loved riding horses with my cousins.  I enjoyed horseback riding until the ride in this photo.

The ride started out slow and it was nice.  I did not know that we would end with galloping.  I came really close to falling off the horse!

Hindsight is...this was one of my first limitations with MS.  I was too weak to hang onto a galloping horse.

There are places that offer handicap horseback riding but I somehow lost the desire to ride horses.

Our abilities to do what we did when we were younger does seem to change?  We have to make adjustments....

at age 66 i am finding more and more adjustments each day, since i turned 50, each year i lose more things i can't do. i like that photo a lot. the good thing is as we age, we lose the desire to do things like you lost yours for horseback riding. now i am focused on staying active and on my feet

I've seen changes in my own interests in a matter of years. I guess it's just life. Always great to have the memories and experiences under our belt though. :)

I rode a horse once. It bucked me off and rolled on me. My first and last time on a horse!
Yep, we all have to adjust. Some adjustments are more difficult than others.

Some adjustments aren't about giving up stuff... I also find at 41 I'm not afraid to do many of the things that I couldn't do when I was young... I might be less likely to strap on that parachute... but I'm more likely to buy that plane ticket.

I still have horses, but just don't have much time to ride anymore. I do miss it sometimes.

It must limit you a lot and you have to give up quite a bit. I know that has to be tough. I also know you have a good spirit and most the times things are okay. But you can mourn for awhile and that is okay too!

The older I get - the less golden I feel!

I have a quadriplegic friend who owns a horse ranch...he breeds and trains...and he invented the saddle quads use...I have thought of going to visit him and learning to ride despite the tingly and balance issues....I miss the good ride on a hires...

Even without MS or other beast lurking I suppose we would eventually have to adjust because of limitations...just stinks though :)

I have always been afraid of horses. They are so big! I don't think they like me either for that matter.

I found when I was younger my limitations were mental and now my limitations are physical. I would never go back. ;-)

Life is all about adjustments, isn't it? It is very hard for me to deal with age and illness, as well. My balance is so off that Phil had to steady me when I snapped pictures yesterday. I hope this just means I am still recovering, rather than a new permanent thing. But we need to concentrate on all the blessings we do have. Hey, you were brave, I always was too scared to get on a horse, but you experienced it!

Aslong as we do not battle against adjustments and acknowledge they are part of our roller coaster of life it won't get us down.

You said you don't miss the things you use to do? Wow that's the hardest part of MS for me.

I have been thinking about this post. I do miss walking but do not think about it much. This is just life for me after 20 years, it becomes normal???

I used to love riding horses but now....I love hiking the hills. Things change...we change..I think that's the beauty of life. But what I get from your post....is when we can't do something the way we used to....don't despair...adapt. You really are an inspiration.

Kim, you will ride a horse again someday...with Jesus. That horse will have wings, and you will soar in the heavenlies. God will wipe away every tear from your eyes...

I've only ridding a horse a few times... all incredible experiences. Love what Deborah Ann wrote...you will ride one day again - with Jesus.

Hi again, I just adopted another horse today, Julius! Up at my mother's farm. I don't ride much but I do love them.
I have to admit, you have a GREAT attitude! I wish more people were like you! My mother is a lot like you too, she never complains about the use too's at all.

Haven't been to any horseback riding in my life. Only on a horse-cart ride which was pretty close. Lovely memory of youth to share with us from you Kim. Enjoying them! Smile.

Horseback riding is only for the brave I say! I watch my daughter and marvel.
Adjustments....we could always call it "fine tuning":)
