Steering wheel Knob |
This post is for anyone who is curious about driving without the use of your legs. The steering knob allows you to steer with one hand.
Pedals extender lever |
I press the lever forward to use the brakes, pull the lever down to press the gas pedal. It was not hard to learn....Here is a link for a site that explains more about hand-controls.
Personally I wanted to make the necessary adjustments to live independently as possible.
Of course I wanted to be that average Mom that drove my kids to school, soccer practice, doctors, etc....
Sometimes little adjustments make a big difference!

WOW, I always did wonder that. You are very lucky to be able to have a car like that. It must make you feel good to be able to be independent.
Have a nice night! :)

Wow - locally a lot of people think "old fashined" or "trucker-wannabe" when they spot a knop on the steering wheel...
Must admit that I was actually one of them until having read your post. So glad that I learn new things everyday, and that this thing could be helpfull if things (the MS) someday get worse for me too....
Thanks for sharing and educating me :o)
Thanks for sharing that Kim...I know a guy in our town who has no arms and he drives with his feet! He is amazing and really does everything with his feet; mows the lawn, cooks. He is such an inspiration!
Thanks so much for your openess and honesty!
Absolutely amazing. You are so very brave... I don't know if I could do that- I would mix everything up!!!
You are an inspiration to me!!!!
Hand controls are a great thing!! Perhaps you showing this will help someone.
I have just this past month realized how my hands are being affected by RA. My husbands truck, which is really MY second vehicle only he doesn't know that, has a wheel grab cover and that helped enough I put a request in for him to put one on my car.
I've also noticed, I need to find a no slip, preferably rubber footed step stool. It's not so easy anymore getting things from top shelves.
Your wheel balls look great as they would give a nice comfort fit.
Thank you for stopping by my blog! I will be posting a giveaway tonight so be sure to stop by and put your hat in the mix.
Gentle hugs
Tammy
Thanks for stopping by and peeking at my Garden. I plan on going bigger next year. The more the merrier (and the Farther my budget stretches :) ) Congrats on the hand controls. FREEDOM... wooo hoooo!

Hey there. I hadn't been around in a while ans wanted to stop by and say hello.
very cool photos- I had no idea that there was such a thing. Great way to maintain independence
I hope you are off to a fantastic week!
Modern technology makes so many wonderful things possible, doesn't it?
The wonders of technology this must reallt give you freedom to live life as normal as possible.
Thankyou for sharing.
thanks, i knew these existed but have never seen how they work. so happy you can drive with this assistance.
I've been using hand controls since I lost proprioception and much sensation in my feet. That was late in 1988. They were quite easy to get used to, very intuitive.
And FYI, since my hand function is not impaired, I don't use a steering ball.
Congratulations for taking on "one more thing" that will end up making your life much easier. I don't know why so many people put these things off, for instance, until after they have an accident.
Very cool post. Thanks for sharing the information.
Very cool! Thanks for showing us this. I have been curious, but never even thought to ask. I LOVE your independent spirit!
Your closing sentence is so true...thanks for sharing about this...very interesting!
