Chigger Troubles

We had a fun weekend with my family celebrating my sisters birthday of turning the big 50!

It ended with me painting again but this time I was using a tiny fingernail polish brush and a large canvas on the back of my hubs legs.....

We always thought it was the way to kill chiggers and stop them in their tracks.

I Googled it and was surprised of the advice being, the skin irritation of scratching is all you need to treat after showering....and fingernail polish is an old-fashioned tale.

Today's technology is fascinating! well if it works....

I am not painting chiggers anymore!  What do you know about chiggers?

1. I don't want them!
2. I guess they are better than ticks!

chigger - well had to look up the word, and had to look of the translation too - but it isn't a thing we experience locally

Well, I must admit, I know NOTHING about chiggers. If they are like any other bitting insect, I would expect that using hydrocortisone ointment on the bites would alleviate any itching.

They don't burrow under the skin. They attach to a hair follicle or skin cell. Apparently, not every remedy works for every person. This is what I found:

*a small piece cut from Salonpas
*powdered sulphur if you can stand the smell
*Cool mint Listerine
*Chiggerex
*anything that is drying like alcohol

Hope something works!

I know they itch like crazy and jump on us out of bushes and brush and are also in spanish moss. we did not paint the chiggers but we did paint sand worms. we would get those from going to barefoot and wading in puddles and it smothered them, so it would do the same thing to chiggers.

1. We don't have chiggers, but we have worse: TICKS!!!

2. We also have biting midges. I had to look them up. They are teeny tiny bugs, but they bite, and take a hunk of skin out of you!

3. Just FYI, Kim, I've been blogging since Sept of 08.

I know the itch is unbearable but thankfully it's been a long time since I have experienced chiggers!!

I know nothing about chiggers as I've had the fortune of never having had to deal with them.

I've heard that nail polish was a good way to get rid of them. Good to know that it doesn't help.

Chiggers are the worst little critters! Itch like crazy for days! This year we haven't experienced any...I don't know why, but I'm grateful.

I do try to avoid them by not walking or standing or sitting on weedy areas.

No chiggers here. For which I am grateful since every biting thing brings me up in welts. Don't know whether this is an MS immune thing, but it sucks.

Ick! Phil used to get them when he was young. I have heard that the scratching scratches them out!!

Well---hubby took a hike once in the woods and came home with a huge case of chigger bites on his legs... What worked the best for him was Vinegar.
Hugs,
Betsy

I know that I do NOT want to deal with them.

And the only other thing that I've ever heard is the nail polish thing.
Good to know that an old fashioned scratch off works just as well.

Chiggers??? And you paint nail polish on your skin to get rid of them? (Clear, right? ;-> ) Well, I'm glad you read about the scratching solution. But wait, what do you have to shower with? (I was going to be obnoxious and say 'nail polish remover' but that would be backwards, wouldn't it!)

I don't know what chiggers are.
