Memories from a Tomato Sandwich

As I was slicing this tomato I remembered my Mom or Dad saying "Be Careful" when I was young and slicing a tomato....

I also have a fond memory of picking a fresh tomato off the vine in the garden then biting into it with juice dripping into the dirt....mmm

Just feeling gratitude for these memories brought back to me by a plain ole tomato sandwich!

How We Rescued a Cat from this Tree

This field cat had been in this tree with no hope of getting it down for a few days....

Here are a few of the ideas we either tried or had suggested to us:

I left a can of tuna near the tree

Dogs had slept a lot or ignored the cat

Maybe we could call the Fire Department?

 My daughter really wanted us to cut down the tree!

I said "the cat has had plenty of opportunity to get down....there is nothing we can do to help the pitiful cat".

I was telling Dad of our suffering cat and He told me what he had done years ago.

He said "I took the dogs out of sight since the cat will watch the dogs even if the dogs are asleep.  Try putting the dogs somewhere else and see if it comes down as that stray scurried out of my tree years ago." 

So Hubs put the dogs on the deck has a last ditch effort and completely out of sight from the cat....after 2 hours of the dogs sleeping on the deck.....the cat was gone!

I want to pass on the info of how we rescued a cat from a very tall tree in hopes that it will help another stranded cat!

Our Scary Night

In the dark everything seems scarier....even if you are a horse dog!

I let my horse dog Donny out  before bedtime.   He was strolling around the yard marking his territory. 

He suddenly stops and barks frantically.

I can see him barking as I yell and yell for him to come inside....All the while I am thinking:

"what if there is a person out there"

"what if Donny gets hurt by a vicious dog"

"what if he sees a coyote"

Finally, He comes back inside but obviously was shaken.... Hubs goes outside to investigate what has upset our Donny.

It was a shiny balloon which would look frightening to any dog at night. (photo taken next day)

This is a reminder of how things seem more frightening in the dark whether we are a horse dog or a human!

Real MS Voices

I was asked by Real MS Voices to share their contest.....You can decide for yourself.....This is what they wrote me:

"Real MS is engaging people living with MS as well as individuals impacted by MS around the world in a global design competition .  The challenge is to come up with a unique and innovative idea for a new gadget or technology that could help someone overcome a challenge of living with MS. The winner will receive a trip to a global design firm’s studios, where their idea will be brought to life in the form of drawings, visual mock-ups, and possibly even a prototype." 

 

 

I know my Hubs is creative such as trying to make a Smart Car Handicap Accessible (we are still working on that idea)......however we have no ideas yet for this contest.

 

MSer's sometimes have to invent things in order to live with MS!  This site seems to be worth checking out.....

"To Touch The Past" Book

This is not a book review since I had a very small part in helping to write the book.

It started with me enrolling in Ms. Kathy Thompson's Photojournalism class back in High School.

The class wrote the book "Touching Home".    I remember Ms. Thompson working very hard on the book as most teachers do.

I went along with others to the interviews but I too shy to say much......The interview I Remember the most was with a teacher about "One Room Schools".

It is no longer in publication but "To Touch the Past" is a new version of it....which is still about our Appalachian Life.

I still have some of the words echoing in my head when I read the book again.

My MS continues to be Inactive

I went to Shepherd's MS Institute in Atlanta for my yearly check up with an MRI scan of my brain (yep I still have a brain)......

The doc said "Your MS is still Inactive". 

That was great news to me but how do I have new pains such as a "burning sensation" in parts of my body?  and Leg spasms.

I cannot take the medicine they recommend for nerve pain during the day without being Loopy!

Thankfully I was sorta pain-free for 30 years with MS.  I just had to add my complaints or reality nowadays.

I will not complain much since I saw others in the MS Center that were much worse than I....and some were so young.....

If I have to have MS, then Inactive is the kind to have.

I Caught my Horse-Dog Sleeping!

When I Draagg myself to the living room so early, What do I see?

My horse dog is sleeping! 

It is a few minutes after he woke me up at 6am!  

I say "WHAT are you doing after waking me up at the break of dawn?"

He replies "Duh Rrruuhh, I am sleepy since I got up so early!"

You can see the guilt in his drowsy eyes!

My Guradian Angel or My Uncle

Carson and Nate

I feel that I should share this story of protection from 30 years ago......it is burned into my memory.

I have always felt that God was there at the right moment even if it was my Uncle Carson.

It was a bitterly cold night as I was leaving my Aunt and Uncles house. 

Uncle Carson came out on the porch and said "I will watch you go to your car".  He had never watched me before so....

I said "Oh no Carson, I will be fine and it is too cold for you to stand outside" but he did not go back into the house as I walked (normally back then) to my car....

When I got to my car......I stopped suddenly when I saw a man crouched down between my car and another car.....

I yelled "Carson there is a man out here beside my car"

When Carson got to the car and talked to the man, Carson was not sure what to do so he let the man go on down the road???

We regret that we did not call the police but this was a rural area where we did trust too much........cannot change it now....

There are many things that we do not understand in life....but this was one time that I felt protection, after all I could have disappeared......

Gone Fishing

Well my mind has gone fishing....however I do not care to fish!

My Dad has been visiting us so we have been spending time with him.

Chigger Troubles

We had a fun weekend with my family celebrating my sisters birthday of turning the big 50!

It ended with me painting again but this time I was using a tiny fingernail polish brush and a large canvas on the back of my hubs legs.....

We always thought it was the way to kill chiggers and stop them in their tracks. 

I Googled it and was surprised of the advice being, the skin irritation of scratching is all you need to treat after showering....and fingernail polish is an old-fashioned tale.

Today's technology is fascinating! well if it works.... 

I am not painting chiggers anymore!  What do you know about chiggers?

Heat Dome of Summer

I do not have to tell anyone but the end of Summer is near even though we are under a Dome of Heat.

I have said to many, "I will take July Heat over January Cold anytime"....however the heat is not easy for MS.

I Love hot,  humid weather since I grew up with it but this year has been tough.

My biggest problem is that my brain has gone blank under the Dome of Heat!

I Fried an Egg!

 That is not a big deal for most people but it is for me....

It is Not because I cannot fry an Egg but it is because I like to eat Brownies and Cookies for breakfast.

I need an Egg for strength instead of sugar....duh

Dad says that my stomach is in shock now!

I do need more strength since I walk (with a walker) much more!

Walking is the reason that I eat an Egg!

Childhood Friends

My sister (right) and I had a fun this weekend seeing a friend from childhood as seen in the pic above. 

We reconnected because of Facebook, since she lives in Ohio.  She had come south on vacation.

We laughed about what we did as children and also talked about our lives nowadays.....

Enjoy these friendships......It helps life to be more interesting and fun.
