Out-House Flashback

Our fancy out-house had running water.  It was built over a creek.    Ewww, we think now but had no choice back then.

I do remember going to the outhouse as a restroom when I was 5 years old.

My Mom took my sister and I.  We did not want to go alone in the woods.

We lacked indoor plumbing in the early days of the 1960's.  We lived with the bare necessities.

Those were happy days for us kids.  We did not need the finery of life that we take for granted now.

Now I turn on the running water, sometimes it is even hot water!

This reminds me of how Blessed I am...

Hi Kim,

When I first saw the title line, I was thinking you were talking about a restaurant experience (Outback Restaurant) but instead you were talking about a toilet.

Growing up in Chicago, I can say that "I took plumbing and bathrooms for granted." One summer, my grandmother took me and my brothers to her sister's farm in Arkansas, it was the first time I stayed in a home with no bathroom or plumbing.

It was an eye opening experience and I was glad to return to Chicago when summer ended.

Blessings and peace.

I grew up with electricity, air-cond, tap water etc. My grandma, during her younger days, uses a well to get her daily supplies of water. She had to go get fire woods too. Yes, I will never know how it felt to run to a well to get water or chop fire wood, but will not take for granted what ever I have now. Nice post. Have a great day to you.

Kim - I am so with you on this. My parents worry that they didn't give us enough, and I worry we give ours too much.

Oh, Kim, that is exactly how I grew up, loved every minute of it!! My kids were raised "back in the boonies" as they say and they also loved every minute and have such great memories of a wonderful childhood! They could roam around wherever they pleased and be safe, not like today at all, when we would be afraid to let our kids out of our sight! Hugs & Blessings.

There's so much we take for granted! It's so true though, materials don't make us happy.

Kim, I agree with you on this. The bare necessities were happier days because we learned to work and play hard. A stick and a jump rope was all I needed to have fun.

Blessings,

Jasmine
