Volunteering at School

I saw immediately, how our Teachers do need help.  She could not teach, and see all the mischief going on.

This was my sons first year of Public School.  I wanted to help him adjust.  I asked the school, how?

They said, help the teacher of 4th grade, a few hours a day.  Do not remember how many days.

She had me help with paperwork, listen to a child read, etc.  I was an witness to crime extra pair of eyes.

This was many years ago, volunteer rules are more strict.  I know schools still need an extra hand.

I agree. Now you have to go through finger printing and such. I'm going to help out with band camp later this week. I am so excited. I'll post on it probably Wednesday.

I plan on helping out with my boys' classes- but I need to go get my clearances so that I can!

Kim I am sure also over the years volunteer rule and detective work has changed. The school system probably even needs more of volunteers these days. Blessings.

It's clear that teachers could use all the help they can get. Thanks for the great reminder!

I helped out with my oldest granddaughter's pre-K classes when she was still here but now, I'm going in diffefrent directions. I can understand all the precautions, but you'd think that they'd find a way to make it easier to help out.

Oh, this is new to me. This had never happen in Malaysia before. We do, sometime, short of teachers. Schools here gets temporarily teachers from fresh school leavers etc. They do not allow parents to volunteer. Thanks for sharing. Now I know such thing exist on the other side of the world

When I first stopped working I volunteered in my sons class, he was in kindergarten! I was the room mother, read stories, and made copies, it was great. He graduated last year, I'm officially old now.

I worked as a middle school lunch lady for 7 years. People will think I'm crazy but they were some of the best years of my life! I LOVE that age group. I saw first-hand all kinds of stuff...mainly the results of a lot of bad parenting out there. But the vast majority of kids are great, no matter what the media tries to tell us. When my kids were in grade school back in the mid-80s I used to volunteer in the HOSTS program of tutoring...Help One Student To Succeed. That was very rewarding, too.

I did that when my girls were in the Primary. It was a great feeling to be able to be of help to the school.

Yes, we do, even in middle school. Parent volunteers are worth their weights in gold.
