Why I Stay Up Late

I am asked this question quite a bit.  Here goes a reason for it.  I was made to stay in the hospital 7-10 days of complete rest, back when I first started having MS relapses!  They did not know what to do but rest and take an IV everyday of steroids.  It  was tough to have complete rest, while taking a medication that makes me hyper.

Needless to say, I feel like laying in bed, and unable to sleep is like torture!  To this day I stay up late, to avoid being awake in the middle of the night.  It works pretty good for me, I know most MSer's have trouble sleeping.

This is where things could be worse.   Prisoner of your body and your mind is fine.  Remember to be thankful for whatever you can do.  I do try to be grateful for breathing and other abilities we take for granted.

I like to stay up late too. Most of the time, I think it is because I want to be the last one to go to bed, like I am going to miss something or something. But I sure don't seem to feel like I care if I miss anything in the morning though. LOL I also hate going to bed and not being able to get to sleep right away so I make sure that I am super tired before I lay down for the night. I do not like being up in the middle of the night either. :)

Hi Kim,
Like you, I have MS and have become a night owl myself. I want and need that middle of the night sleep!

I know how it feels. Having an insomia (not able to sleep) in the middle of the night is worst of the worst and what's hard is when you go to work, you feel and look so wasted. I hate that kind of feeling.

I also I'm up late at night, partly because of m.s. and I do like the quite time when it's just me. Four hours of sleep works best for me, if I sleep longer the spasticity gets a tight hold on me and it can take almost the whole day to get my body and brain back on the same page, then I feel that I've wasted the whole day.
