Thankful for Memories

Grumpy Oscar and Happy Shelby

After grumpy Oscar passed away recently.....I found this old photo of Oscar and Shelby.

Many years ago, we had adopted a puppy so that Oscar would not be lonely....
I am not sure Oscar appreciated that fact.

Therefore Oscar was forced to raise the happy dog, Shelby.

Back when happy Shelby was a puppy with older grumpy Oscar....Shelby kept yelping as puppies do.

Oscar could not take that yelping puppy anymore so....

Oscar went over and looked down at her and barked a few stern  barks.....Shelby looked up and quietly barked Ok and hushed.

Oscar was not mean to Shelby and they both lived long, full lives!

Maybe the Christmas season causes me to feel reflective or is it the old photos...whatever it is...I am thankful for memories!

It's funny how pets can communicate with each other. I have fond memories of my pets, too.

When I first got Shiver, I had an older dog and an old kitty. They passed on and Shiver was an only pup. He HATED being left alone with a passion. When I'd even go outside for a minute, he'd cry and cry and cry when I came back in. So I got Chico. Shiver's much happier now but Chico isn't a fan of Shiver. lol

I'm glad you saved the pictures. I didn't get many of my other pets and regret that now.

Memories are a wonderful thing, especially the good ones.

Oscar even looks grumpy in that picture, I wonder if maybe he never felt that well. It is hard to tell with animals because they can't tell you when something hurts.

Is Oscar the dog you've had by your side for so long? It's such a sad day when our pet friends pass away.

A lovely story. When we still had Moby and M'lady they didn't like each other. At all. No violence - but many dirty looks. And then we lost Moby to cancer and M'lady pined. Really, really sad to watch.

Old photos do that. I love the memories that old photos evoke. This shot has captured their feelings well.

Funny story, one similar in some ways to ours. We have an old dog and got a new pup, partially to keep him company. He didn't appreciate it either and was rough on the pup. And, he trained him to be rough, so now that he is grown, the pup is returning the favor. "Whatsoever ye sow ..." applies also to the canine realm!

Thank God for our memories... You have some great ones of Oscar and Shelby... Is Shelby lonely now without Oscar??? I'm sure she is.

Hope you and your family have a blessed Christmas, Kim.
Hugs,
Betsy

Aw, this is really sweet. It's funny how grumpy Oscar was good for Shelby, and I'm sure more than you know, Shelby was good for Oscar. I imagine him to be like a grumpy old man who grumbles and growls when you try to be happy around them, but you catch a little grin when they think you aren't looking.

Kim-

They are so cute! It's always difficult when our pets pass away. But always thankful for the memories they leave behind.

God bless!
